The midwife at the time of delivery

Although more and more women are viewing home birth as a safe and desirable option, most women still feel more secure giving birth to their children in a hospital setting. However, they don't want to give up havingr non-operated deliveries, respected and humane. They dream of a beautiful, intimate, unique delivery, with or without epidural anesthesia. This is what you can get the midwife at the time of delivery.

Women who have continuous and professional emotional support from the midwife during the time of delivery do so in amore confident way and with fewer interventions, achieving a higher percentage of natural childbirth, which in addition to facilitating all the stages of motherhood, gives them a greater feeling of achievement and empowerment that makes the birth of their children what it should be, "the best experience".

There are studies, such as the one carried out by the prestigious Cochrane Collaboration (specialists who gather all the scientific evidence about a topic and analyze it, worldwide) "Continuous Support provided to Women during Childbirth" in which they reach the following conclusions:

Those women who receive a continuous support during labor present:

1. Less need for the use of analgesia of any kind.
2. Lower rate of cesarean sections.
3. Lower index of instrumental deliveries (forceps, suction cup, spatulas)
4. Greater satisfaction with your birth experience.

The authors concluded that all women should receive labor and delivery support. The professional home accompaniment on the part of midwives it is the option, the void that until now was unfilled.

The midwife is available for couples before delivery, to clear doubts, fears, concerns. During childbirth, it is able to stay in the background, leaving all the leading role to the couple, but ensuring that the physiology takes its course. It controls the fetal well-being, doing intermittent auscultation, it evaluates if the labor has been triggered, and if it passes normally. The woman may even want to know how much is dilated, and it is the midwife who in the couple's house performs a touch to verify when to go to the hospital.

In addition, the midwife is someone who can offer resources for pain management (water, massages, puncture in the Michaelis Rhombus, postures ...), to facilitate the baby fit....

The dilation is carried out in the couple's house, in their spaces, with the people they decide, surrounded by their things; and in most cases everything flows naturally. Many couples feel safer, if there is someone to guide them, to tell them that everything is fine, that things are going ... When the time comes for the couple to decide, They go to the hospital to finish dilating and the birth of the baby.

Our job as midwives is to accompany the woman during labor, and in the first stage of labor; with an assessment of the maternal state and fetal well-being; until it's time to go to the hospital.
